We are pleased to introduce Molly Stahl, Thrive DC’s new Social Services intern! Molly is originally from Hamilton, NY, and is a rising junior at Barnard College of Columbia University studying Sociology.
As a student at a historically women’s college, Molly discovered Thrive DC while looking for internships in the DMV area and was drawn to the origin of Thrive as a women’s organization. She is passionate about groups that started as a space for women’s health and wellbeing, making her an excellent fit for Thrive DC. So far in her role, she has learned about the different bureaucratic steps necessary to obtain aid as well as the many different ways that aid can be provided for a person in a city like DC.
As a resident in New York City, we asked Molly what her observations have been of homelessness in DC:
“Homelessness in DC is extremely prevalent; coming from New York City, where encampments are few and far between (and being swept more and more frequently), seeing the amount of tents outside is a bit of a shock. Working with people experiencing homelessness both here and in NYC, I am never prepared for the kindness people show; they are constantly teaching me and upending my expectations.”
We are thrilled for Molly to make an impact on our team this summer!
