Meet Molly Stahl, Thrive DC's new Social Services intern! Molly is originally from Hamilton, NY, and is a junior at Barnard College of Columbia University where she studies Sociology.
As a student at a historically women's college, Molly discovered Thrive DC while looking for internships in the DMV area. Thrive drew her attention because of its origin as a women's organization. She is passionate about groups that started as a space for women's health, making her an excellent fit for Thrive So far in her role, she has learned about the different bureaucratic steps necessary to obtain aid. She has also explored the different ways to provide aid can for a person in a city like DC.
As a resident in New York City, we asked Molly what her observations have been of homelessness in DC:
"Homelessness in DC is extremely prevalent. Coming from New York City, where encampments are few and far between (and where the government sweeps the camps more and more frequently), seeing the amount of tents outside is a bit of a shock. Working with people experiencing homelessness both here and in NYC, I am never prepared for the kindness people show. They are constantly teaching me and upending my expectations."
We look forward to seeing the impact Molly has while working with our team this summer!
